And Then The Floods Came

Today was John Allen's first "official" day of school! He had his first lectures today and is already back up at the school studying! When he came home today, he said, "Whoa!" I had to take his picture as he was leaving the house this morning!

This morning when I got to work at 7:00, the custodian met me at the door and said, "Nobody called you?" I said, "Noooooo." He then told me that the building had flooded last night during all of the rain that we had and that there would be no school!

There is a lot of construction taking place on our school campus and a drainage area became blocked and the entire downstairs became covered with inches of water!

Just when I thought that I had finally gotten my classroom "clean enough" to have class in, and after hours of hauling and sweating and scooting and moving and lifting and. . . (if you're a teacher you get it!) I was disappointed to see my room in a mess! However, I am so thankful for the teachers that were at the school last night when the water started pouring in for picking up as much as they could off of the floors. The only things that were ruined were my teacher computer, possibly my refrigerator, some posters, power strips, and a few other inexpensive items. It could have been so much worse!

The building smells nice now (kindof like the mud from the bottom of the lake) and we will have school tomorrow. I found a roach the size of a small dog on my bookshelf! I'm sure all of his friends are having a party in my room as I type! I think they love dampness! Ugh!

I know these pictures don't look too bad, but I had already put many things back in their place!
