The Thaw

Yesterday, I took this picture of the freezer, so that we could remember what it looked like during the summer of our gardening experience. John Allen and I were both standing there when I took this photo, and evidently, the door didn't get closed completely when we finished. I'm not placing blame for leaving it open; although, I don't think it was me. Anyway, when I returned to it several hours later to put in a few more bags of beans, I discovered that everything had thawed! The veggies could be refrozen (thank heavens!), but all of John Allen's deer meat had to be eaten or thrown out! Don't worry, we found a nice home for all of it!

Imagine my confusion when I discovered John Allen putting what looked like weeds on the roof of the barn! In fact, those are peanuts! I learned that once you pull them from the ground, they have to dry out. His dad told him that his grandad used to put peanuts on that very roof to dry!
